On Friday, August 28, members of Melfa Volunteer Fire & Rescue joined with members of Tasley Volunteer Fire Company for a hands-on vehicle extrication training at the Melfa Fire Station.
The training was conducted in partnership with TNT Rescue and Fire & Safety Equipment Company, giving our firefighters the opportunity to work with specialized rescue equipment while practicing a variety of techniques used during serious motor vehicle accidents.
Throughout the evening, members worked through multiple extrication scenarios focused on safely and efficiently gaining access to patients trapped inside damaged vehicles. Crews practiced vehicle stabilization, glass management, door and roof removal, creating additional access points, and utilizing hydraulic rescue tools in different configurations.
Vehicle extrication incidents can be complex and time-sensitive, requiring firefighters to work quickly while maintaining the safety of the patient, rescuers, and EMS personnel. Training opportunities like this allow our members to strengthen their skills, learn new techniques, and improve coordination between neighboring departments before those skills are needed during a real emergency.
