Training Night: Vehicle Extrication

On Friday, August 28, members of Melfa Volunteer Fire & Rescue joined with members of Tasley Volunteer Fire Company for a hands-on vehicle extrication training at the Melfa Fire Station.

Assist Forestry with Air Drops

On August 14, 2026, Melfa Volunteer Fire & Rescue โ Station 10 was requested to assist the Virginia Department of Forestry with aerial firefighting operations at the Accomack County Airport.

Watercraft in distress- Melfa

Station 10 and Station 9 responded to the area of Red Bank Lane in Melfa for a report of a watercraft in distress. Upon arrival, crews discovered a sailboat had come into contact with overhead power lines, causing the boatโs mast to catch fire. Chief 9 ( M. Rydberg) established Red Bank Ln command.

Brush Fire-Exmore

On June 7, 2026, at 1:40 p.m., the Melfa Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a brush fire in the area of Sturgis House Road. Chief 31 arrived on scene and found a field fire covering approximately 1.5 acres.
